A Sweet Celebration of Christmas and Yalda with Royal Icing Cookies in Calgary

This festive set of cookies was created to celebrate two beautiful traditions coming together: Christmas and Yalda Night. At Afsheed Cakes in Calgary, we love honoring culture, creativity, and craftsmanship, and these custom handmade royal icing cookies perfectly reflect that spirit.
This collection features assorted gourmet sugar cookies, each carefully baked and decorated with smooth royal icing. The designs include classic winter favorites such as Christmas trees and snowmen, alongside vibrant red Yalda pomegranates adorned with elegant Persian calligraphy. Every cookie was decorated by hand, with attention to detail, balance, and symbolism — turning each piece into a small, edible work of art.
What makes this set even more special is that these cookies were baked and decorated during our Christmas Cookies Class, alongside our wonderful students. As the instructor, I was proud to cover a wide range of baking and decorating techniques — from royal icing consistency and piping control to color balance and design planning — all while keeping the class relaxed, creative, and fun. Watching students gain confidence and enjoy the process is one of my favorite parts of teaching.
